Do you need to wear a safety harness on a ladder?
Yes, you do need to wear a ladder safety harness in certain circumstances.
Using a ladder to access high places can be risky, especially if you haven't taken the time beforehand to conduct a thorough risk assessment. Using a ladder safety harness can sometimes be a good way to reduce your risk of falling. You should consider wearing a ladder safety harness if:
- You will be working at height for a long time (i.e. longer than 30 minutes)
- You won't be able to maintain 3 points of contact with the ladder at all times
- You will need to leave the ladder, for example, to climb onto a roof
Additionally, if you will be working at 20 feet or higher, you should absolutely wear a ladder safety harness. The maximum height a person can fall from and sustain survivable injuries is between 20 and 25 feet (6 - 7 meters) - don't put your life at risk!
All of our harnesses for ladders are tested to the appropriate safety standards, so you can work at height with confidence.
