All safety helmets must be approved to an EN standard and CE-approved. The relevant standard for your safety helmet will depend on the specific risks that exist in your working environment.

For example, the general safety standard for construction sites is EN 397, whereas the standard for height safety helmets for mountain climbers is EN 12492.

Why wear a safety helmet when working at height?

Head protection is required on most construction sites anyway, but when work is taking place at height, there is an even greater need for safety helmets.

Working at height puts you at increased risk of falling and hitting your head, or bumping your head on something above you.

Also, if there are people working at height above you, a safety helmet will help to protect your head from any tools or other items that they accidentally drop.
