Retractable Fall Arresters (13) Product(s)
Retractable fall arresters, also known as self-retracting devices (SRDs), are fall arrest blocks that automatically retract into a housing unit whenever slack is given to the lifeline. These innovative retractable fall arresters follow the movements of the wearer, giving and taking length as necessary to maintain a constant tension in the line. In the event of a fall, a braking system within the housing unit of the retractable fall arrester arrests the fall - not unlike a car seatbelt.
Retractable fall arrest blocks are popular because of the wide range of motion they allow the wearer. These retractable fall arresters give you more freedom to move around than a traditional fall protection lanyard.

How to Use a Retractable Fall Arrester Safely
Retractable fall arresters have many advantages, but because they're a bit different to traditional fall protection devices, there are a few things you need to take into consideration.
The retractable fall arrester's wide range of movement is a massive benefit, but it also means you have to be hyper-vigilant about your anchor point placement. In the event of a fall, the fact that the fall arrester allows the user to move quite far from the anchor point leaves a lot of scope for swing.
After a fall, the distance and momentum of your swing will depend on your distance from the anchor, and you’ll continue to swing in a pendulum-like motion before eventually coming to rest underneath your anchor point. As such, it’s vital that your anchor point is placed as centrally as possible, and as far away from any potential obstacles as it can be.
We have a wide range of PPE that you can wear alongside your retractable fall arrester for additional safety.
