Tool Tethers

When choosing your tool tether, make sure you know the weight and dimensions of your tool and choose a tether that is certified and suitable for that specific weight. You should also consider the length of tool tether you need based on your working area and the task at hand. The tether should never be so long or short that it interferes with tool operation.

Many tools with have tether holes readily available for attaching tool tethers. In these cases, all you need to do is slide the tether's loop end through the tool's tether hole and then thread the carabiner end through the loop to form a tight choke hitch. For tools without tether holes, you can use the same choke hitch formation although this may not be suitable for smooth, straight-shafted tools.

For heavy tools that exceed 2kg, you will need to tether them to a fixed anchor point rather than the worker's body.
